Early Years
- Music- making had been a natural playful activity for Orff right from his childhood. He cherished his childhood toys according to their grade of rhythmical serviceability.
- 1905-1907 attended grammar school Ludwigsgymnasium
1907-1912 attended Whittelsbach Gymnasium grammar school in Munich
- Left school early in order to study at the Academy of Music in Munich
- He considered lessons at school as a compulsory exercise...the only subject he found really absorbing was ancient Greek
- By teenage years, Orff was writing songs
- At age 16, some of Orff's work was published
- Found the tuition of the Academy of Music over conservative
- Devoted himself intensely to independent study of Schoenberg's harmonic theory and works and the music of Debussy
